The team at Pompey Ventures made a strong statement at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in Doncaster this week , securing three exciting prospects for our yearling syndicates – including the team’s most expensive yearling to date.
Nerves of Steel!
Our very own Owen Haly, was interviewed by ITV’s Oli Bell, and filmed live in the Doncaster ring - locked in the heat of battle and bidding with steely determination to secure our NAP of the sale!
Royal Ascot Anyone?
Known as the sale that consistently produces sharp and precocious two-year-olds, Doncaster did not disappoint. Pompey Ventures went to £100,000 for Lot 281, a striking colt by Royal Ascot-winning sprinter A’Ali out of a Raven’s Pass mare. The colt, who impressed with his strength and athleticism, was described by the team as “the type of yearling with the class and precocity to carry our colours at Royal Ascot.” Currently only limited shares now remaining - available here

The team also struck for Lot 59, a filly by exciting freshman sire Minzaal (by Mehmas) out of a New Approach mare. The cross appealed strongly, with Mehmas known for imparting speed and New Approach providing depth and scope. A powerful, good-sized filly with a hardy outlook, she was secured for £30,000. This filly was fully syndicated within 2 hours!
The final purchase came late in the sale, with Lot 354A, a daughter of Ten Sovereigns out of a Dandy Man mare. A leggy, scopey filly, she boasts a big, powerful hindquarter and is expected to develop significantly over the coming months, and be out on the track in the earlier half of next year. Syndicate shares have just been released and are available here
Pompey Ventures founding partner Owen Haly said:
“Doncaster has always been a sale that produces early speed and Royal Ascot horses, so it was important for us to be strong here. We were thrilled to secure our first six-figure yearling – he looks every inch a Royal Ascot type. We’re equally excited about the fillies, who both offer excellent value and long-term potential.”
Pompey Ventures partners David Byrne and Zach Massingham added:
“It was a busy and competitive sale ground, but we feel we’ve come away with three athletic and racy individuals who can give our owners plenty to look forward to. We now turn our attention to developing them into smart two-year-olds and, hopefully, Royal Ascot contenders.”
With their sights firmly set on the 2026 season, Pompey Ventures leave Doncaster with a trio of yearlings that reflect ambition, quality, and the promise of big days ahead for their owners.
