A New Face in the PV Training Ranks... International Trainer of the Year - George Scott

Group 1 winners, international success and an exciting new filly...
We're delighted to welcome George Scott to the Pompey Ventures training team.
We've known George for some time now and have long been fans of what he's been doing at Eve Lodge Stables in Newmarket. He's built a cracking operation, and we've watched his yard go from strength to strength, with some tremendous results both at home and abroad.
One of the most exciting and progressive young trainers in Britain, George is someone we've felt for a while would be a great addition to the PV team. It was always just a question of finding the right horse and the right opportunity.
This autumn, we found both.
Quite a Year for George!
George Scott's rise through the training ranks has been quite remarkable, particularly over the past couple of seasons.
In 2025, he celebrated his first two Group 1 victories, courtesy of Caballo De Mar in the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp and Bay City Roller in Germany's Grosser Preis von Bayern. Add in a string of international successes and he finished the year being crowned International Racehorse Trainer of the Year.
And if 2025 was good, 2026 has been even better.

Bay City Roller was a hugely impressive ten-length winner of the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom, giving George his first British Group 1 winner. Caballo De Mar subsequently returned to Longchamp to successfully defend his Prix du Cadran crown, while Wimbledon Hawkeye added another Group 2 success the same weekend.
The following afternoon, Bay City Roller produced a superb performance to finish second in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
It's a tremendous achievement for George and his team, and one that firmly establishes him among Britain's leading trainers.
Why George?
We've always been particular about the trainers we work with. Their results are important, of course, but there's much more to it than that.
We want trainers who take a genuine interest in our horses, who are approachable for our owners and who are happy to work closely with us on plans for each horse.
George is very much that sort of trainer.
He's ambitious, hands-on and clearly loves what he does. We also particularly like his willingness to travel with his horses rather than simply sticking to the obvious options.
Race planning is something we've always taken very seriously at PV. Having a good horse is one thing, but finding the right races for it is another, and George very clearly puts a lot of thought into where his horses run.
His record speaks for itself.
Behind the Scenes at Eve Lodge
What really stands out about George is just how involved he remains in every aspect of his horses' preparation.
A recent visit to Eve Lodge by Nick Luck and Lydia Hislop offered a fascinating insight into the way he runs his Newmarket yard.
George takes them through the daily routines, individual feeding programmes and weekly veterinary checks, explaining just how much thought goes into each horse's preparation.
There are some particularly interesting insights into the different characters in the yard, not least dual Group 1 winner Caballo De Mar, who apparently has very little interest in impressing anyone on the gallops at home!
It's very clear George knows his horses inside out, and isn't afraid to adapt their training to suit their individual needs. You only have to listen to him talk about them to appreciate how closely involved he is, and that's exactly the sort of attention to detail we like to see.
The full interview is well worth a watch and offers a great behind-the-scenes look at life at Eve Lodge.
A really interesting watch and one we'd highly recommend!
The Filly That Started It All
Our first horse with George is a beautifully athletic daughter of Blackbeard, purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.
She made an immediate impression on all of us. Sharp, athletic, intelligent and very much a proper two-year-old type, she was exactly what we'd gone to the sales hoping to find.
George absolutely loved her.
In fact, he made it clear that had she gone beyond our budget, he fully intended to keep bidding and buy her himself.
And his assessment of her prospects certainly got our attention:
“I'm going to say it — I think she's a Royal Ascot type.” — George Scott
There’s obviously a long way to go between buying a promising yearling and getting to Royal Ascot, but it gives you an idea of just how highly George rates her. It's certainly encouraging to have him so enthusiastic about our first horse together.
She will join George at Eve Lodge in November, with the intention of preparing her for an early two-year-old campaign in 2027.

Looking Ahead
We've been fortunate to build some excellent relationships with our trainers since Pompey Ventures began, and choosing the right people to look after our horses remains one of the most important decisions we make.
We couldn't be happier with our decision.
We are delighted to finally have George on the team.
Shares in our Blackbeard filly are currently available. Find out more about her pedigree, George's plans and ownership opportunities here
