Tuco Salamanca has become one of the real success stories of Pompey Ventures. Privately sourced and purchased by the PV team, his progression to an eight-time winner has been remarkable. Brilliantly named by young first-time owners Connor and Tomas, he has gone on to become the most successful horse to wear the PV colours.
After showing promise during his first season, wind surgery proved the turning point. Tuco progressed rapidly through the ranks, winning five times during 2025 and has already added three further victories this season.
Along the way, he has completed a hat-trick, landed two valuable Racing League prizes and developed into a seriously talented handicapper. His seventh victory came at Newcastle in June 2026, when he won for the second time in a £50,000 race at the track and recorded a Timeform rating of 111.
And then came Ascot.
Dropped back to 5f for the first time, Tuco produced that familiar turn of foot to land the £85,000 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash and bring up career win number eight.
From an opening mark of 61 to an eight-time winner, with a Timeform rating of 115 and more than £161,000 in prize money, Tuco has become a genuine flagbearer for PV. He has been everything you could hope for in a syndicate horse: tough, genuine, progressive and, above all, a prolific winner — and we hope there may still be another chapter or two to come.

Despite being so consistently good over 6f, the turn of foot Tuco continues to show convinced us that he deserved the chance to show what he could do over a shorter distance. So we made the decision to drop him back to the minimum trip for the first time and see whether Ascot’s stiff 5f would play to his strengths — and it played out exactly as we had hoped.
Held up in midfield behind a strong pace, he travelled smoothly into contention before Jerry Chau produced him perfectly just over a furlong from home, quickening with that lethal turn of foot to win the £85,000 Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash by a cosy length and a half— no whip needed!
The performance earned Tuco a Timeform rating of 115 and gave PV our first ever winner at Ascot. It was his eighth career victory, adding yet another distance to an already remarkable record. He has now won over 5f, 6f, 7f and a mile, on ground ranging from soft to good to firm — a real testament to his incredible versatility and to the way Ollie Sangster and his team continue to produce him in such fantastic form.

Less than a month later, Tuco proves his Kempton success was no one-off and wins snugly again under a strong ride from Nicola Currie, making him a dual winner for Ollie Sangster, the PV Team and his delighted owners!

Tuco completes the hat-trick, winning for the third time in just six weeks and giving his owners another brilliant day at the races. From an opening mark of 61, he is quickly becoming a very exciting horse for everyone involved.

Tuco absolutely bolts up in the Racing League to win by 1.5L and lands a nice £18k for his owners! He is a super little horse who is now a four time winner & has earned just shy of £60,000 in prize money.

Back to back victories for Tuco Salamanca in the Racing League!
He made the 5lb rise from his emphatic Yarmouth victory look very lenient when slicing through the field in impressive fashion and winning eased down. It was so impressive that it earned him a Timeform performance rating of 104 & an RPR of 96.
Ollie Sangster & his team at Manton have done an incredible job keeping this horse on top of his game & we are delighted that our race planning has once again proven to be very effective. We were very vocal in both a televised interview & to Team Ireland captain Mick Fitzgerald after winning at Yarmouth that this fella needed to run in the 6f 0-90 at Newcastle. It was great to see Micks faith in us justified!

Tuco returned from his winter break exactly where he had left off, winning impressively on his seasonal debut under a confident ride from Billy Loughnane. It was career victory number six and further proof that there is still plenty more to come.

Tuco secured his seventh career victory with another hugely determined performance at Newcastle. Coming from the rear and challenging wide at a track that had strongly favoured front-runners, he stayed on powerfully to win this £50,000 race and earned himself a Timeform rating of 111.

Dropped back to 5f, Tuco was held up in midfield behind a strong pace before travelling smoothly into contention and making his move just over a furlong from home. Under a perfectly judged ride from Jerry Chau for Team Hong Kong, he quickened smartly to take the lead inside the final furlong and went on to win the £85,000 Shergar Cup Dash cosily by a length and a half.
He has now won over 5f, 6f, 7f and a mile, on ground ranging from soft to good to firm — another brilliant performance from an incredibly versatile horse.
