A day at the races can be a great experience. A day at the races, as a Racehorse Owner can elevate it to an amazing experience!
What to Expect as a Novice Racehorse Owner on Race Day...
Race Day
Today is the day.
The planning and training is done. All the updates you have received over the previous months have led to this day. The excitement is building...
Arrive at the racecourse in plenty of time, and park up in the complimentary Owners and Trainers car park , right next to the track. No 3 mile hike from car park 10 for you😉
Start the day with a drink in the Owners and Trainers (O & T) bar. Catch up with your fellow racehorse owners and the Pompey Ventures team, as you enjoy your complimentary lunch, over looking the track. Soak up the atmosphere as you mingle with other racehorse owners and the trainers, all preparing for their horses to run.
30 mins to post time you head to the pre parade ring to see your horse make its first few laps before saddling and then follow down to the main parade ring. Once there you will get the chance to admire your horse close up, size up the opposition, and possibly do a pre-race interview or two! The jockey and trainer will join you in the parade ring for the PV team talk, pre-race briefing and most importantly, the riding instructions required for the winning ride!

Post time! Your horse makes its way down to the start and is loaded in the starting stalls while you find your preferred viewing location for the race.
And they are off... you watch with your heart in your mouth, screaming them home with your fellow PV syndicate owners, from the designated O & T viewing balcony or stand.
First past the post? You get to meet your champ back in the winners enclosure for a celebratory pat, a photo call, the jockey de-brief, post race interviews and the trophy presentation. Finally, when all the "winners work" is done you will be invited into the racecourse Winners Suite, for champagne and nibbles, while you watch the all important replays of your win!
Full disclosure.
Not all races end in a win for owners.
The overall day is basically the same. Minus the feelings of euphoria.
But there's always next time....

First Time Racehorse Owner?
Here are our Top Tips for Novices :
Always allow extra time to get to the track. We have all run in to the parade ring with 5 minutes to spare, due to unexpected traffic and its a very stressful experience!
Check the dress code before you leave. Not all racecourses have a formal dress code but some do require a jacket and/or tie. We can confirm it can get expensive if you have to buy a racecourse tie or a hat when you get there. Especially if you are at Ascot...
Bring cash for the obligatory 'lucky' owners bet. There is nothing more satisfying than collecting actual cash from the bookie when your horse has won!
Finally... remember, no one knows you are a novice racehorse owner. So relax, and enjoy the thrill of racehorse ownership!
