Bob Mali
Last week Bob Mali was sold at the Tattersalls Autumn HIT sale. Our €16000 yearling purchase went through the ring for 50,000gns
The definition of a PV legend, Bob is exactly what everyone wishes for when buying an unraced horse and he was an absolute hero for his small group of syndicate owners, providing all the thrills and excitement they hoped for when purchasing a share, as well as an excellent return on their investment.
Pompey Ventures, Ollie and his team at Manton worked together to carefullly plan and execute Bob's 2 year old campaign, resulting in an impressive 3 wins from his first 3 runs. Early in the year, he showed considerable potential, though a minor setback required us to be patient and give him time. The wait was well worth it, as he made an impressive winning debut at Ayr, securing an emphatic victory much to the delight of the syndicate, who turned out in full force for what was an unforgettable day. He followed this with another strong performance at Chester, coming from off the pace to win convincingly. Bob Mali then faced a tougher challenge in the Joan Snow Memorial Conditions Stakes at Salisbury, where he took on the unbeaten Richard Hannon filly, Persian Spirit, who came with a lofty reputation. Ridden prominently by James Doyle who was determined not to allow Persian Spirit too much of a lead. Bob displayed a sublime turn of foot winning stylishly. This career-best effort earned him a Timeform rating of 94.
Bob has been the dream syndicate horse for his PV owners and will always hold a special place in our hearts at PV as the very first yearling we purchased. We are all sad to see him go but wish him well as he takes the next steps in his racing career.
On to his next chapter...
