🥈Oliver Show🥈

The 29th of March welcomed the start of the much anticipated ‘Turf’ season, beginning with The Lincoln Heritage Handicap at Doncaster. A race that has been in the racing calendar since 1849 and very nearly had ‘Pompey Ventures’ added to the long list of winning owners on our first time of running in the race!
Oliver Show returned to the UK less than a month ago from the Kingdom of Bahrain and his winter sun certainly had the desired effect as part of the long term plan of being in the best possible shape to have a crack at The Lincoln. George’s team in Bahrain truly did a superb job with this horse in the Middle East, returning him in the shape of his life, for an attempt to hit the jackpot back on UK soil.
Oli ran an outstanding race at Doncaster. His extremely passionate owners couldn’t believe how well he was running and celebrations erupted when it was announced ‘Oliver Show won the Lincoln’. Trainer George Boughey was (in the heat of the moment!) hoisted into the air like Sir Bobby Moore after winning the World Cup, only to have that ten seconds of euphoria taken away when upon a closer look, we were in fact pipped at the post!
Although we didn’t come away victorious, if at 15:00 you had offered us a second place finish and £36,000 in prize money, there is a 99.9% chance it would’ve been snatched by all involved!
Sourced by the PV Team for 31,000gns at the 2023 October Horse In Training sale, he is the winner of three races, including a valuable racing league heat. He has successfully ventured to the Middle East, where he placed second in a listed race, gaining Pompey Ventures first Black Type & has now finished second in a heritage handicap, taking his career earnings for PV to over £110,000.
An absolute legend, who’s going to now enjoy a short break before heading to Royal Ascot… We think that he is money well spent, what about you?
🥇Tuco Salamanca🥇

"Here we gooo, Tuco wins three in a rowww…"
Progressive three year old ‘Tuco Salamanca’ extended his winning streak to three consecutive victories on all weather surfaces after a dominant performance under PJ McDonald, winning in what the Racing Post described as ‘comfortable’ fashion by 2 lengths at Newcastle.

Tuco heads to Southwell tomorrow (2nd April) in an attempt to extend his winning streak to four in a row. This race looks a harder task in a bigger field and up against some unexposed types. A victory here would see him win the ‘Horse of the Month Award Bonus’ as part of the All Weather Bonus scheme. Ollie has managed this horse excellently so far and we hope to see him eek some more improvement in our Belardo gelding tomorrow afternoon.
Tuco was privately sourced by The PV team and is our only syndicated private purchase option to date, a record we hope to extend. He was purchased for £35,000.
All in all - An exciting day to be a Pompey Ventures Syndicate Owner!

Prize Money and Stats Update:
At the time of writing, our stats and prize money are displayed below.

Some interesting stats not pictured here are:
🔵 Pompey Ventures have a 75% strike rate with unraced purchases trained by Ollie Sangster winning a race. Of this 75%, 66% have won at least THREE races. Pretty good, even if we do say so ourselves!
🔵 Our average prize money per race for 2025 so far is £3,250
Two year olds catching the pigeons
With the Brocklesby kick starting the flat season for the two year olds on Saturday at Doncaster, there is a different type of buzz in the air, as the yearling purchases and home bred’s start to hit the track before the breeze up sales commence. Our six two year olds are all fit and healthy, which at this point in time is a fantastic thing to be able to say.
We have, what seems, the desired balance of early & mid season types. Dandy Orton would likely be our first two year old runner, closely followed by our Niarchos bred New Bay colt, both trained by Ollie Sangster. Our Starman colt with Ollie is going to be a more mid season type and built like a tank! He will continue to grow bigger and stronger as the more precocious types make their debuts.
Our Kodi Bear filly in Ireland with Jack Davison continues to grow and looks a picture. Jack has been complementary of our filly both physically and mentally in the short time he has had her under his watch. Jack hit the ground running at the weekend in Ireland with two precocious two year olds finishing second placed. Hopefully a sign of things to come for the young trainer in the season ahead!
The Karl Burke trained duo of our Twilight Son colt and Sands of Mali filly are both progressing at their own rates. We are in no rush to get either of these to the track. Bob Mali (Sands of Mali) didn’t run for us until August, but he was well worth the wait, and we hope the same is true for this filly as she continues to strengthen and grow.
Our Twilight Son colt purchased at the Tattersalls Summerville sale is going to be a mid season type more likely to start over 7 or 8 furlongs. Purchased with the assistance of Kieran Kourdache, both Kieran and Karl know the family of this colt well having trained the Dam and also still train his ‘uncle’ Holloway Boy, who won the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot on debut.
When will you be purchasing more improving HIT Horses?
Unfortunately we fired blanks at the October HIT sale. It was simply too competitive, and everything we wanted made over what we valued them at.
We will be looking to recruit a couple of progressive types at the Tattersalls Guineas Horse In Training sale on the 1st of May.
Fingers crossed the next newsletter contains at least one new, much requested, HIT purchase!
Fill in the online form on the website or drop us a message if you would like to be added to the waitlist to be join our Pompey Ventures Syndicate Owners!
